Monte Turato – Masso alla Guata
Description
From Marina di Campo, not far from the harbor and starting at Piazza della Vittoria, you can reach the Monte Turato pass via side roads and a gravel driveway after climbing 150 meters in elevation. To get you in the mood, the first coastal trail flows smoothly downhill toward Colle di Palombaia, offering stunning ocean views. Now begins the long and grueling asphalt climb past San Piero in Campo and steeply uphill along the winding Via Monte Perone. Along the way lie the medieval Torre di San Giovanni and the Pieve di San Giovanni, until the trailhead is reached at the shady Sorgente del Castagnone (water source). First riding, then pushing along the winding forest path, the climb to Masso alla Guata (735 meters above sea level, also known as Masso alla Quata) is finally complete.
After the rewarding hike to the viewpoint atop the granite boulder, varied trails await skilled riders. In the first section, roughly laid granite slabs demand a good line; then the trail winds through a deeply carved sand gully with countless fun drops, and finally descends over massive granite boulders with steep ramps on the Sassi-Ritti Trail. After a brief gravel interlude, the second part of the challenging Vie Granito Trails follows through the macchia to the coastal village of Cavoli. The return route runs uphill again along the scenic coastal road to Colle di Palombaia, and finally along short trails and side roads through Gli Alzi to Marina di Campo.

We were out and about at the Elba Ovest bike park. Definitely worth a visit! The Italians also held the enduro championships here this year.
Could even be shuttled if you have a car with enough loading space. No off-roader necessary.
Never ridden it myself, but someone wrote "never again" on the signpost :-). It really is only for experts....
