Moron

The Moron is one of the most magnificent panoramic mountains in the Jura. It is famous for its viewing tower designed by Mario Botta. From Moutier, the mountain can be integrated into a magnificent bike tour.

Description

From Moutier, you climb up a small road to the Montagne de Graitery and take this route around the Gorges de Court. The singletrail descent is on the south side of the mountain and ends on the outskirts of Court. Now follow the Birse to Bévilard and then climb up a small road to the viewing platform on the Moron. The view here stretches from the first Jura chain to the Alps, from the Säntis over the Schwarzwelad and the Vosges to Mont Blanc. Incidentally, the tower was designed by Mario Botta and subsequently built by apprentice bricklayers and road builders. For the return journey to Moutier, follow the ridge all the way to Perrefitte, a suburb of Moutier.

We did the tour on April 9, 2023.

The (first) ascent to Graitery is doable with an E-MTB throughout, otherwise only something for very fit bio-bikers or those who want to become one.

In the latter case, the descent unfortunately does not make up for the exertions, as it is "only" a beautiful panoramic tour. However, if you're out and about with people who ride at S1 level, for example, it's perfect. So we had our fun (not lost).

The ascent to the Moron is more pleasant. Info: the tower cannot currently be climbed as the stairs are partially destroyed (Google knows more). You still have a very nice view when you take a break.

The descent to Moutier is very flowy and includes a lot of singletrack - ideal for S1-level riders who want to push their skills to the limit. I also had a lot of fun on the descent, as there is very little braking involved.

Would we do the tour again: yes!
Riding technique: 2/6 (S1)
Condition: 4-5/6 (Bio-Bike)

We rode the tour on Sunday 05.04.2020. As a mountain biker, I would never do it again. It's more for e-bikers and Subaru riders.

Basically a beautiful tour in great surroundings. If it weren't for the two climbs ;-: . Although these are not much in terms of absolute altitude, the persistently steep incline and the loose, rough ground are no fun to ride and mercilessly drain the juice out of your legs. On both climbs, we all had to get off our bikes and push for longer in places because "there was just no more going on." Too bad, because the summits would have been less direct and then a bit more fun.
The descents are ok and really fun. From Mont Moron down to Moutier, however, you take pretty much every cow gate with you, sometimes at 200m intervals, which limits the flow somewhat.
All in all, though, a cool tour. If I were to ride it again, I'd do it with a bit of "embellished lines".
