Rothorn - Findeln | Ride MTB

Rothorn - Findeln

The Rothorn is the second mountain in Zermatt, alongside the Gornergrat, that is popular with mountain bikers. The descent over the Blauherd, the Sunnegga and through Findeln offers top-class biking fun from an altitude of well over 3000 meters.

Description

The summit of the Rothorn can be reached by cable car. The ascent begins with the Sunnegga cable car, then the gondola lift rides via Blauherd to the summit. This point lies at 3,104 m above sea level and is one of the highest places in the Alps that can be reached by mountain bike. The descent leads to Furggji, from where you ride right to Blauherd station. The single trail to Sunnegga begins directly below the station, where the route continues along the ridge path. After Furggegga, the descent becomes much steeper and winds its way down numerous hairpin bends to the railroad line above Winkelmatten. A ridge path rides to Oberhüseren and from there back to Zermatt.
