Col de Mille Supertour
Description
The tour to the Col de Mille begins in Verbier with the gondola ride to Les Ruinettes. Follow the bisse (Bisse de Levron) to la Chaux and head onto the first singletrail. This leads you along the height to the ridge, where the long and sometimes steep but very fun singletrail descent to Lourtier begins. In the small village on the valley floor of the Val de Bagnes, you change sides of the valley, roll to Champsec and then tackle the long ascent to the Montage du Six Blanc. There are 1100 meters of altitude to conquer on this route. At the Alp, you can relax on the singletrack trail along the height to the Écuries de Mille, where the steep final section up to the Col de Mille begins. The sporty part of the tour is over, now it's time to have fun. After a rest at the Col de Mille hut, the route follows the ridge along the endless singletrail past the Six Blanc to Alp Larzai, where the path leads into the forest. Now it gets super fun, the trail down to Le Châble is a real highlight. It ends at the edge of the village, from where you roll to the valley station of the gondola lift and take it back to Verbier.

On the Col de Milles, the tour is not suitable for e-bikes, as there are about 100 meters of carrying and pushing passages. On the Mont Brule, there are another 50 meters in altitude to push and carry. Otherwise a top descent, very demanding.
Technically demanding descent to Lourtier. Great!
It was a super nice and strenuous bike tour. Beautiful trails except for the last part from Le Mintset - Le Châble. Very steep and very rocky. Would have to do another variant, possibly on Sembrancher.
The descent from Le Mintset to Lourtier is not only steep in places as described in the tour, but almost exclusively so. Steep, slippery with lots of hairpin bends. In my opinion, only for very experienced riders. I didn't like this section at all...
I rode the tour on July 8, 2019.
The tour starts harmlessly with the gondola ride and a flat, flowing singletrail with a few technical sections. After that, however, the descent becomes very steep. Absolutely at the limit for my riding ability and my bike. But with the right bike or more riding ability, it would be fun to the power of 3. From Lourtier, an easy singletrail follows until the ascent begins. The ascent to the Col de Mille is then, as described, easy to ride except for the last section. But I still deserved the delicious rösti. The route then continues along the ridge until another extremely steep descent begins. This also pushed me and my bike to the limit and I was glad to have reached the bottom at the end.
Conclusion: Great tour, but next time definitely on an AM bike.
I ride a Scott Spark 900RC and am usually in the head group uphill; downhill I'm always the last one by a long way.
I was on the Col de Mille several times in 2022 and once again it was enough for this tour. This time equipped with 150mm travel and plus tires, the tour was a lot more fun, even if the descents are still at the limit. The highlight of the tour for me, however, is clearly the traverse from Col de Mille to Larzai.
I ride a Scott Genius Ultimate and am usually in the head group uphill; downhill, I'm always the last one by a long way.
