Baumgartenschneid
Description
The best place to park is near the Bräustüberl in Tegernsee. From here, turn left towards the train station. After about one kilometer, turn right towards Kreuzbergalm/Riederstein. After another kilometer, take the forest road and hiking trail 685 Riederstein. Continue along this forest road on hiking trail 685, after 1.3 kilometers you reach the Prinzenweg. A few hairpin bends follow until you reach a smaller path that rides to the right towards Baumgartenschneid. You now follow this path noticeably steeper uphill, you are still on hiking trail 685. After 1.2 kilometers you now reach the 686 hiking trail and the bike has to be pushed or carried. Follow this path steeply uphill, past the Baumgartenalm and you will soon see the summit cross of the Baumgartenschneid. Once you reach the Baumgartenschneid, you have a magnificent view over Lake Tegernsee and the Mangfallgebirge mountains.
After a short rest, things get serious. The downhill trail has some S3 and S4 sections and is very, very slippery, especially in the rain. Only very experienced bikers with very good riding technique should tackle it. Right at the start, the trail descends quite steeply down some hairpin bends until you reach the forest. This is where the root fun begins. It is the trail of a thousand roots. It goes past the Riederstein and a short time later you come to the Riedersteinalm, where you can shake out your arms a little. If you're in a good mood, ride along the forest road towards Tegernsee and then turn left onto another trail after about 1.5 kilometers. Now it's a little more flowy, but still with plenty of roots and some tricky hairpin bends. You arrive back in Tegernsee and roll down towards the lake. Now you can take a break at the Bräustüberl with a fresh Tegernsee beer and a snack to reflect on the descent and talk shop about the bike setup.
Note: The Baumgartenschneid is very popular with hikers and is therefore very busy at the weekend.
