La Lajista
Description
The tour starts at Playa de Tauro, just north of the town of Puerto Rico on the south coast of Gran Canaria. To get in the mood, follow the coastal road for a short stretch, but then turn right at the traffic circle and take the gravel road that will accompany you for a while. It feels like an endless climb up the mountain far above the Barranco de Taurito. In this way, we gain a total of 750 meters in altitude until, after a plateau, the gravel road continues, rough and interspersed with large stone slabs. Here you have to push your bike for around 200 meters unless you have calves like Nino Schurter or an electric motor. This is how you reach the first pine trees and the next climatic zone - and the culmination of the tour.
Now it's time for the downhill fun. First you fly down a trail through the open pine forest. At times a little more challenging, but then again racy and flowy across the terrain. This takes you to the other side of the Barranco de Tauro gorge and down the ridge. The trail is fun, varied, fast and then more challenging again. At Degollada de Cortadores, keep to the left of the ridge and ride down it (occasionally on a slightly wider track) to Pueblo de Tauro, a village not far from the starting point on the coast. Conclusion: The route is one of the top tours in southern Gran Canaria.
