Moncucco

Moncucco (Domodossola)

Moncucco is Domodossola's local mountain and a well-known destination for local mountain bikers. Not just because of the view from the summit, but also because of the exceptionally flowing trails down to the town center of Domodossola.

Description

The ascent to Moncucco, which is just over 1000 meters in altitude, is largely on a small asphalt road that rides from Domodossola to Motti. The route then turns into a gravel road, which you follow to Alp Casalavera. This is the steep final section, which can be ridden to the top station of the chairlift. Ideally, you should leave your bike here and tackle the last section on foot. The summit is worthwhile because of its wonderful view of the entire Valle d'Ossola and the peaks of the Monte Rosa massif behind it. The descent largely follows the ascent route as far as Alpe Casalavera, but then branches off onto a rough gravel road, from where a single trail branches off to the right a little later. This super trail is the start of the long descent, which rides close to the ascent route until Vallesone. The route then turns into the first-class path down to the Sacro Monte pilgrimage site. This impressive place, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the end of the long singletrail descent. The town center of Domodossola is just a few more metres uphill.

Did the tour today on 01.06.22 with electricity. I think I can say that not a handful of bikers reached the top station without electricity and without descending. But it was a lot of fun! The first part of the descent in the BikePark was a bit rutted. But then the fun factor steadily increased and at the end you were really shaken up on the old Bachsteinweg. All in all, a big smile!!!
