Colle di Ciamporino

Colle di Ciamporino

This great and long singletrail tour connects the Val Divedro with the Valle Devero north of Domodossola and offers lots of singletrail fun in a remote region.

Description

The base of the tour is the village of Crevoladossola (320 meters above sea level) north of Domodossola and at the foot of the Simplon Pass. This is where the long ascent towards Valais begins, which you also follow initially on this tour. A small road takes you into Val Divedro and at Varzo into the long ascent over the southern slope. On a mix of asphalt and gravel, you climb up to the Rifugio Pietro Crosta (1751 meters above sea level). An important part of the ascent has now been mastered, and the route continues on a kind of balcony high above the valley floor to Alpe Ciamporino. The last section before the alp with the chairlifts and the bike park leads over a single trail - easy to ride with an e-mountain bike, but a small feat of strength without motor support. At Alpe Ciamporino, you have the option of taking the chairlift to shorten the ascent. Please note: the mountain railroads here have a very short summer season. Without the chairlift, the route climbs up a steep gravel road to Colle di Ciamporino (2283 meters above sea level), the transition to Valle Devero and the highest point of the tour.

The singletrail downhill fun begins with the change to Valle Devero. A great, sometimes tricky S2 trail leads downhill until a gravel road begins just below Alp Case di Sotto. Due to a lack of trail alternatives, you ride downhill on this road for a good stretch until the trails come into focus again at Alpe Agaru. The "Veia di Scuettar" trail leads over six flowing S0 kilometers through the northern flank of Monte Cistella to the village of Cravegna. The descent continues uninterrupted on flowing and fun S1 trails down to the valley floor near Crodo, where the return journey along the Toce River begins. It's ten kilometers back to Crevoladossola, with a mixture of gravel roads, asphalt sections and, above all, flowing single trails along the water.

All in all, a very long and exciting singletrail tour far from the mainstream. In addition to the good trails, it provides a beautiful insight into the wild mountain world of the northernmost tip of Piedmont.
