Val Chedul

Val Chedul (Gröden)

The Val Chedul lies directly above Selva Gardena and offers a racy trail descent in the midst of pure Dolomite feeling.

Description

In sporting terms, the tour to the Rifugio Puez is no big deal, as a large part of the ascent from Selva Gardena is covered by the Dantercepies cable car. If you set off outside the cable car operating times, you can take a bike shuttle up to the Gardena Pass and then tackle the gravel road ascent to the Jimmy Hut under your own steam. The hut is the starting point of the 230-metre ascent up to Furcela de Cir through the middle of the rock towers. This section offers an impressive backdrop with the Sella massif on the opposite side.

Furcela de Cir is the highest point of the tour and the starting point of the singletrail descent back to Selva Gardena. The start is tricky: a steep, slippery and difficult to ride path leads down to a depression where the trail branches off to the left into Val Chedul. Now it becomes smoother but the high alpine terrain remains undiminished. Again and again there are some crisp key sections to master. The trail only becomes smoother at the tree line, but now the roots come into their own. The entire descent is at S3 level with numerous S4 sections - a fun challenge in the midst of a fascinating landscape. In this way, you reach the valley floor and finally roll back to Selva Gardena on the gravel road.
