Zimon de Terne

Zimon de Terne

The Zimon de Terne near Belluno is the little brother of Monte Serva, but offers a mountain bike tour in a class of its own with a very alpine summit descent and a fantastic trail finale.

Description

The start is in Bolzano Bellunese. From here, you roll a few meters downhill, past Al Mulino Piscicoltura and then very steeply on asphalt to Case Bortot. At Case Bortot, the ascent is topped off. The surface also becomes rougher. On an old mule track, the ascent to Zimon de Terne is very steep and sometimes only possible by pushing. At the clearing, where a small picnic arena has been set up, the pedaling comes to an end. From here, you have to push or carry your bike for the last 800 meters to the summit. Initially relatively relaxed through the forest, there is a key section at around 1400 meters above sea level. The former brick path has broken off here and the bike has to be carried uphill for about five meters (briefly secured by ropes). The route then continues on hairpin bends and along the ridge to the summit at almost 1800 meters above sea level. Not only the sweat-inducing ascent, but also the fabulous panorama towards Belluno, Piave and the Belluno Dolomites leave nothing to be desired.

Time should be planned for a summit rest and an extensive summit tour before the highlight of the tour: the descent. It should be noted in advance that the upper section is very alpine and very exposed towards the north. Absolute bike coordination and bike safety are required here, otherwise the trail rides fantastically at a difficulty level between S1 and S3. Before the forest section, where the hairpin bends begin, the difficulty increases to S3, whereby a five-minute push section must be taken into account twice. Firstly at the hairpin bends and secondly on the insured ascent variant. After that, the difficulty level is S1 to S2 throughout and leads down to the clearing and then in a wide arc past the farm buildings towards Filippi. The variation of the trails can be individually adapted here, as long as you only turn into Filippi in the direction of Col Castei on the last trail meters and surf back to the starting point, or have to pedal the last few meters back up. All in all, a genuine alpine tour, but one that is very exposed in the upper section and requires a head for heights, surefootedness and perfect bike control.
