This historic tour past the Vajont reservoir to the historic village of Casso and back via Troi de Sant'Antoni combines pretty much everything you can experience in terms of scenery, history and trails at an altitude of around 500 meters.

Description

The route starts in the village of Codissago near Longarone. The area around Longarone and Piave has a dark past. On October 9, 1963, there was a natural disaster and the dam wall was flooded, resulting in the deaths of over 2,000 people. Today, the dam is no longer in operation. At the beginning, the route rides on asphalt over serpentines through a relatively long, illuminated gallery to the dam itself. Guided tours are offered at the dam wall, where the history is explained. Passing these places, you can see the massive landslide right next to the main road, which tore over 200 million cubic meters of earth into the reservoir. At the industrial zone, turn left towards Casso. Here you have an even better view of the natural disaster, as well as a view of the surrounding mountains.

Now continue directly towards Troi de Sant'Antoni. A historic trail on difficulty level S2 rides under Monte Pul above the pass road. A fantastic trail that is a little exposed in places, but perfectly laid out. At an altitude of around 800 meters above sea level, there is a sharp change of direction and the difficulty also increases. At difficulty levels S2 to S3, the trail then leads past the main road to the starting point. The finale features a concrete staircase that marks the end of the trail at an altitude of around 50 meters.
