Passo Le Vette Grandi - Passo Croce d'Aune
Description
The tour starts in Pedavena at just under 350 meters above sea level. From here, the route climbs steadily on asphalt up to the Passo Croce d'Aune at over 1000 meters above sea level. The uphill then changes abruptly. A gravel military road from the First World War, which is in very good condition, now has to be mastered. Almost 1000 meters in altitude have to be covered at this pace before you reach the Passo Le Vette Grandi (1994 meters above sea level). A crossing point that was very important and strategically useful during the First World War. Today, it spoils mountain bikers with a fantastic panorama and a very challenging trail descent.
In the upper section at difficulty levels S2 to S3, the descent is still relatively manageable. The middle sections on the Sentiero 801, however, reach difficulty level S4 throughout. It should be noted that these can also be bypassed relatively easily and the trail can only be entered at the tree line. From here, the level still remains at S2 to S3, but is easily manageable. There is everything from hairpin bends to steep steps and loose ground. Finally, just before the Passo Croce d'Aune, turn left onto the Sentiero and take the S1 descent past Stalle Camogne and then past several agricultural areas and small villages back to Pedavena. All in all, an interesting trail cocktail with an epic and historic ascent. As already mentioned, the middle sections of the trail can be bypassed in the most difficult downhill section by the military road.
