Monte Buscada
Description
The tour starts in the small town of Codissago in the Piave Valley. From here, the route rides along the SR251, an asphalted town road, uphill in constant serpentines to the Vajont dam. The tragic accident of the last century is documented and chronicled here by numerous plaques and information material. Past the memorial, the route continues on asphalt towards Erto. From Erto, the next uphill section begins on a minor road with moderate gradients in the direction of Rifugio Casera Mela. Here the surface changes to gravel and you pedal steadily uphill to the former Salita alla Cava Buscada - Erto quarry. A steep climb awaits you, especially before the gallery.
Finally, you reach the Rifugio Cava Buscada, which offers a breathtaking view, especially to the north and east. Here you can take a break before the descent on the trail begins. The trail ranges in difficulty between S2 and S3 and is typical of this region: limestone gravel, foliage, steep steps and other challenges await you. A good view and active riding skills are essential here. The CAI 381 leads directly above Erto before turning off onto the Rommelweg.
Erwin Rommel had countless military buildings built during the First World War to improve the infrastructure, which today serve as perfect bike trails. You follow this trail at lofty heights with spectacular views of the Vajont reservoir towards Casso. After Casso, the trail becomes easier at first, then increasingly difficult, with difficulty levels between S2 and S3 and some striking key sections, including a concrete staircase at the end. Finally, you reach Codissago and complete the tour.

All in all, an absolutely magnificent tour!
Small addition: According to the description above, the descent starts right at the Rifugio Cava Buscada, but that's not true: the CAI 381 trail is initially quite a long traverse after the Rifugio with at least one significant uphill section before you really start the descent. A total of about 30 to 45 minutes on CAI 381 from the Rifugio to the point where it really goes downhill. There is a lot of loose gravel, especially in the first half of the descent on the CAI 381, which you have to like, otherwise it is tedious. After CAI 381 on the ridgeway (Rommelweg) towards Casso, the surface is better.
