Croce d'Avena - Monte Avena West
Description
From Fonzaso, the route climbs steadily on asphalt past Monte Aurin above Pedavena along the pass road to Passo Croce d'Aune. At just over 1000 meters above sea level, the pass is reached and you take the road to the left, also on asphalt and then on gravel, to Malga Campon. What is a ski area in winter offers a relaxed ascent in summer thanks to the infrastructure that has been built. The summit cross (1339 meters above sea level) is located to the south of the mountain pasture and is therefore the culmination point of the tour. This area offers fabulous views. Especially when the air is dry, the panoramic views extend almost as far as the Mediterranean Sea.
The downhill also begins here. Initially at difficulty levels S1 to S2, it is relatively easy along the ridge towards Cima Loreto. The trail becomes increasingly difficult and reaches its most challenging section (S2 to S3) in the Cristo de Rana area. Extremely steep and on loose gravel, the path here requires a relatively high level of concentration. In total, there are over 1100 Elevation loss to be completed before you arrive back in Fonzaso.Map & GPX-Track
