Colle della Rho
Description
The starting point of this alpine mountain bike tour is Bardonecchia in the western part of the Susa Valley. The route begins on asphalt, but soon changes to a gravel ramp that climbs steadily up to the former Caserma Pian dei Morti military barracks. This section already runs along historic military paths in the Vallo Alpino and impresses with its magnificent scenery and panoramic views.
Further on, the climb becomes increasingly steep and challenging. The mountain bike has to be pushed for long stretches up to the Colle della Rho. The pass crossing rewards you with a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains.
From here, the first descent begins. It is technically rather easy, but rides through extremely scenic surroundings on classic, natural paths. After the first downhill, the next climb awaits: another pushing passage to the Passo Valle Stretta.
The pass is embedded in a similarly impressive setting as the Colle della Rho. However, the following descent has significantly more technical sections and should not be underestimated. The alternation between flowing and challenging sections is clearly noticeable, with the level of difficulty ranging between S2 and occasionally S3, depending on the surface and the state of erosion.
At this pace, the descent seems to stretch endlessly down into the valley. Along the Rio di Valle Stretta, you finally reach Pian del Colle. Here you briefly use the Strada Provinciale before heading back to Bardonecchia along the Rio di Valle Stretta - on a mixture of asphalt and small trail cut-offs.
