Opere delle Quattro Sorelle

Opere delle Quattro Sorelle (Bardonecchia)

The circular tour on the old military roads of the Second World War in the Susa Valley near Bardonecchia captivates with impressive panoramas and a very steep, yet extremely scenic descent.

Description

The start is in Bardonecchia. First, a paved military ramp of the "Linea del Vallo Alpino" leads steadily uphill to Poggio Tre Croci. There you leave the wooded larch area and follow the ridge, past the Ricovero Rossero and other old military buildings, steadily uphill until you reach the basin below the Opere delle Quattro Sorelle. This is the highest point of the tour - with a panorama that is second to none.

The descent begins from the remains of the Vallo Alpino military installations, some of which can be visited at your own risk. Difficulty level S3 is the order of the day here: the trail is very steep, interspersed with tight hairpin bends and several key sections. The views remain breathtaking and the descent through the pine forests is particularly impressive. In the lower section, the trail is eroded in places and therefore hardly any easier before you reach the valley floor at the Pian del Colle campsite.

The route back to Bardonecchia is a mixture of asphalt, side roads and short trail sections.
