Punta della Mulattiera attracts visitors with its countless World War II bunkers and offers fantastic opportunities for mountain bikers. The west-facing descent follows historic trails as well as sections of a mountain bike park and is crowned by a truly breathtaking mountain panorama.

Description

The tour begins in Beaulard. From there, the route follows the old military road uphill on asphalt toward the Oasi xerotermica di Puys. Further along, we switch to gravel and follow the mule track to the summit of Punta della Mulattiera at just under 2,500 meters above sea level. The panorama from this spot is truly breathtaking, with the many military structures from World War II lending the barren landscape an almost surreal quality. Located directly on the border between Italy and France, the highest point is majestically framed by the imposing three-thousand-meter peaks of the Susa Valley. Then comes the grand finale: the descent. This is wonderfully smooth to ride and leads mostly over gravel without any significant difficulties at difficulty levels S1 or S2, directly down the valley toward the west until you reach the official trails of the mountain bike park. The park offers a similar difficulty profile and guides riders in the upper Susatal smoothly down to the valley floor. To finish, a mix of trail shortcuts and side roads leads back to the starting point. A little tip for connoisseurs: you should include the short climb past Fort Bramafam. This allows you to avoid the return trip through the gorge and instead enjoy a few more first-class trail meters.
