Piz de Lavarella

Piz Lavarella (Fanes)

The Piz de Lavarella is a genuine 3000-metre bike peak in the middle of the Fanes-Senes region, which offers a trail firework display of superlatives.

Description

This tour starts at the Rifugio Pederü (1548 meters above sea level). From here, the route is initially very steep on the cycle path to the Kleine Faneshütte and then to the Limojoch (2174 meters above sea level). If you are already a little out of breath at the pass and have the saying "no mercy for the calf" in your head, you should bear in mind that you have only completed half of the tour. From the Joch itself, there is a short downhill trail towards the Große Fanesalm (2102 meters above sea level) with a difficulty of S1 to S2. At the Große Fanesalm, the landscape is reminiscent of the typical Dolomites. Rugged rock needles, steeply sloping walls and the colored stone brighten the eyes every time. The route continues through the valley to the turn-off to Piz de Lavarella. From 2150 meters above sea level to the summit (3055 meters above sea level), the bike has to be carried and sometimes pushed. As far as the summit itself is concerned, there is a place to carry the bike up and down. From here, the route is once again steep and very exposed (caution: a head for heights is essential!) up to the summit. Once here, the world is at your feet. A panoramic view that can only be found in a picture book. With good visibility and dry air, several peaks and mountain ridges are in sight, like stars in the sky on a clear night.

Then the downhill begins. Some sections are still rideable, although it should be noted that this is only the case for absolute pros. One riding mistake could mean a final crash. From the saddle, the flow begins on the ascent variant. On a difficulty level of S2 to S3, a seemingly endless trail leads back to the Große Fanesalm. Hairpin bends, flow passages and technical sections all need to be mastered. At the Große Fanesalm, it's another short uphill section to the Limojoch. From here, the route continues on a difficulty level S2 to S3 to the Kleine Faneshütte. Pay attention to the steps here, as they should not be underestimated. You then briefly take the ascent variant on the gravel road and finally the trail cut-off (also on a difficulty of S2 to S3) to the Rifugio Pederü. Conclusion: All in all, one of the most breathtaking tours in the Fanes-Senes region, but a head for heights, alpine experience and surefootedness are a must here, as the last few meters to the summit are doable and rideable in sections, but only for absolute freaks.
