Fanes-Runde

Fanes-Hochtal

The Fanes Tour is one of the great Dolomite classics, albeit a sporting tour de force. The highlight of the route is the ride through the wonderful Fanes plateau with the descent to San Cassiano.

Description

The starting point of this long route around the Fanes massif is St. Vigil. From here, you roll up the valley to the Rifugio Pederü and then increasingly steeper to the Rifugio Fanes. This brings you to the Fanes high valley, through which you now cycle over the Limojoch and the Ju dal Ega and enjoy the magnificent Dolomite scenery. After the Col de Locia, the leisurely ride ends for the time being: a steep, challenging trail winds its way down the wild terrain. Basically rideable, but interspersed with steps and the occasional crisp hairpin bend, but a wonderful section for good riders. This is how you reach the valley of San Cassiano, where the long ride back to San Vigilio awaits. To do this, you cycle along the cycle paths to Abtei, change to the main road for a while and then turn off onto a (traffic-free) cycle path again after the village of Martin. In this way, you reach the village of Zwischenwasser at the entrance to the Rautal valley with St. Vigil as the largest village.

This classic variant of the Fanes tour is ideal for very sporty mountain bikers without major singletrail demands. If you want to increase the level of adventure, choose the variant over the Antoniusjoch pass.
