Biosphärenhaus
Description
The Fischbach Biosphere House is the ideal starting point for this tour. It is worth visiting the house with its exhibition and the spectacular treetop path with a long slide at the end before or after this tour. At the beginning, the route follows a flat road through the small community and then follows the Fleckenstein cycle path to the Saarbacher Hammer mill pond. This natural lake invites you to linger and swim in summer. The route then heads off-road, briefly climbing uphill on a forest path before continuing back along the main road. We ride through the village of Ludwigswinkel before turning slightly uphill again in the forest. Now comes a highlight of the tour: AREA 1, this former NATO special weapons camp is located directly on our route.
We continue on a forest road, followed by a challenging trail section to Petersbächel. After the cute little village, we tackle our longest climb of the tour. We alternate between easy forest paths and short sections of trail. We cycle right past the Blumenstein castle ruins. The climb up the steps is well worth it and we are rewarded with a beautiful view of the neighboring Northern Vosges/France. Now we ride undulatingly along to below the imposing Pfaffenfels. The short climb is worthwhile, the ascent of the rock is safe and again offers a beautiful view of the village of Schönau before we ride back along a country road past the Königsweiher pond. Now we take another short detour on forest paths into the countryside to get back to Fischbach via the so-called "high hump".
