Bundenthal

Bundenthal (Pfalz)

Short mountain bike tour on the Palatinate border with France with the opportunity to climb the highest castle in the Palatinate, the Wegelnburg

.

Description

This short tour rides from Bundenthal along the cycle path and a side road/forest road to the Bundenthal Rumbach natural airfield. The route continues along a wider forest path and a short road ascent to Beissenberg. There we take a trail ascent in the direction of Wegelnburg. This castle is the highest in the Palatinate and offers a 360° view far into the Palatinate Forest and the neighboring Northern Vosges. It is worth deviating briefly from the route and climbing the castle.

After the Wegelnburg, we ride a flowing, long downhill trail, which is very narrow at first. There are also narrow rock passages to negotiate. In the lower part, it becomes increasingly flowy and crosses a forest road, which we leave again after a short ride to ride a section of road to the beautifully situated village of Nothweiler. There you have the opportunity to stop for a bite to eat at one of the two restaurants along the route. After the last houses, we follow the narrow side road. The tour rides past the former iron ore mine. This can also be visited by appointment. The route continues along short sections of trail and forest paths below the small Humberg to Bobenthal. From there, the tour follows the Wieslauter river along the cycle path back to the starting point.
