Monte Zoufplan

Monte Zoufplan

Monte Zoufplan in the Italian region of Friuli, near Paluzza, is a real highlight when it comes to panoramic views - and also offers some of the best trails in the region.

Description

The starting point of the tour is the small village of Cercivento. From here, a military road from the Second World War (Vallo Alpino) winds its way up half on asphalt and half on gravel to the summit of Monte Zoufplan at 2001 meters above sea level. From an altitude of around 1500 meters above sea level, you are already above the vegetation line and have a magnificent view towards Tolmezzo, the Tagliamento and the Torrente Bút. At the summit there is a deluxe 360-degree panorama. To the north, you can see Austria, the national border and the Plöcken Pass, to the south as far as the Alpe Adria region and to the west, the Dolomites rise up.

The long ascent is not only rewarded with a magnificent panorama, but also with an amazing trail. It starts directly at Monte Zoufplan and winds its way back to the starting point via the Pizzo del Corvo and Monte Tenchia on the southern ridge. With difficulty levels ranging from S1 to S3 in places, there is a real treat for everyone. Partly brick paths typical of this region alternate with military roads and former mule tracks, alternating between flow and technique. Once you arrive at the starting point, you have almost 1400 Elevation loss in your arms and legs - plus a grin on your face.

Too steep for my taste. For those who are comfortable with S3, it might actually be quite nice. But at least in terms of the panoramic views, the tour is very beautiful.

Rode the descent today with an alternative uphill. Really good descent on the old Mulitiera trail. Sometimes you get a real canyon feeling.

Our BnB is located about 60 minutes by car from the starting point of this tour and directly on the trail area of Gemona of Friuli.
