Monte Zoufplan – Malga Zoufplan
Description
The route starts in the village of Paluzza in the heart of the Carnic Alps. From here, you pass the former Caserma Maria Plozner Mentil, cross the Torrente Büt bridge towards Cercivento and continue steadily uphill along the old military road, which was built in the days of the Vallo Alpino. Starting on asphalt and later on gravel, you pedal uphill for what feels like half an eternity before you have Monte Tenchia in view. From this point, you are outside the vegetation boundary and have a magnificent view of the Carnic Alps and towards Friuli, Gemona and Udine. A true masterpiece has been achieved here in terms of road construction. A constant gradient and a perfect choice of route make it possible to climb the mountain by mountain bike. The end is at Monte Zoufplan, right by the Stazione meteo. A breathtaking panorama is on offer, followed by a magnificent trail descent. Initially along the ridge, the route later descends to difficulty level S2 and sometimes a little higher to Casera Zoufplan bassa. A wonderful trail descent that is second to none. At Malga Zoufplan, you can stop for refreshments before continuing down the old mule track towards Cleulis Centro, which is relatively easy and undemanding. Turn sharp right here and take the old Roman path, past Ramazzaso over the Torrente Büt and back to the starting point.

The path from the transmitter down to Malga Zoufplan is not worth it. If there ever was a path there, it is massively overgrown and can only be made out with a great deal of imagination. It is also completely over-fertilized by cattle. The first 100m after the mountain pasture are also completely overgrown and the path is barely recognizable as such. But from the forest it gets great. It's easy to ride and very varied as you descend through easy switchbacks. Even the Via Romana back to the car is still very nice. There is a spring after about 600 meters on the ascent. You should use it as there is no more water afterwards.
