Schafreuter
Description
The tour starts just west of the Sylvenstein reservoir directly on the B307 Alpine road. At the beginning, you head south on gravel to the Oswaldhütte and then turn left onto the forest road to the Mooslahner Alpe. The ascent is classic on a forest road with an even gradient and leads up to the Moosberg and the agricultural land at around 1600 meters above sea level.
At the Moosenalm or Moosberg, there is the option of shortening the tour. Those who still have reserves can tackle the Schafreuter. The route continues pushing or carrying up to the summit, where the highest point of the tour is reached at 2102 meters above sea level. At the top, there is an impressive view of the Hinterautal Vomper Kette, the northern Karwendel chain, the Soierngruppe and the striking peaks of the Bavarian Pre-Alps.
The descent from the summit is very varied. Sections of the trail can be ridden smoothly, but in between, some key sections demand your full attention. Limestone passages and groups of roots in the mountain pines determine the character here. The level of difficulty is between S2 and S3. In the area of the Moosenalm, the trail becomes very playful again and leads smoothly downhill across the meadow slopes. It then joins the Reitsteig trail, which offers a very rewarding section in terms of both scenery and riding difficulty (S2). The trail mostly runs on gravel and through wooded areas and impresses with its constant flow.
In the lower section, you will rejoin the approach route, which you now follow back to the starting point, thus completing the loop.

The Schafreuter is one of the most popular hiking mountains in the region, so it should only be climbed/explored outside of vacation periods, not at weekends and preferably during the week as an afternoon tour to avoid conflicts,
