Schwarzkogel

Schwarzkogel (Ötztal)

The Schwarzkogel is located high above Sölden and is a first-class alpine and scenic bike 3000er. The descent through the ingenious bike park infrastructure further enhances the tour.

Description

This mountain bike tour in the Bike Republic of Sölden starts in Sölden itself and offers several options for the ascent: either by cable car to the Rotkogelhütte or on your own along the official cycle route. The ascent begins on asphalt towards the hamlet of Wald before turning off onto the Ötztal Glacier Road. This rides up to an impressive 2550 meters above sea level near the Rettenbachferner. Bikers are already rewarded with a spectacular panorama during the ascent.

After reaching the altitude at the Rotkogelhütte, the route leads off to the left at the Schwarzkogelbahn valley station on a steep uphill, which is particularly suitable for e-bikers. The challenge for biobikers is to transport the bike in part by pushing it. Once you reach the pass, you have a fantastic view of the Schwarzsee lake and the summit of the Schwarzkogel.

The summit itself is quickly reached and offers a first-class panorama with views of the Wildspitze, the surrounding glacier and the Limestone Alps as well as the main Alpine ridge. The descent starts with a trial-like section over the ridge and leads into a spectacular single trail. The section from the summit to Schwarzsee is rated S3 and requires technical ability. The Schwarzsee itself is a great place for a refreshing break in summer.

A key section follows with several technically challenging hairpin bends rated S3 and S4 before the trail rides to the Rotkogelhütte. Past the hut, the route leads directly into the bike park, where the natural trail "Ollweite Line" begins. This route with difficulty level S2 offers fun as well as photographic highlights.

Further downhill variants such as the "Ohn Line" and technically more challenging final sections offer a variety of options for customizing the tour. After completing the descent, you return to the starting point in Sölden, where the tour comes to a close.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
