Hochstubaihütte – Wildkarspitze

Hochstubai-Hütte

Bike 3000m peaks are in a class of their own - including the Hochstubaihütte in Ötztal, which offers a very technical trail descent and breathtaking panoramic views.

Description

This challenging mountain bike tour starts in Sölden, a technically well-developed bike area in North Tyrol, and rides into the impressive heights of the Alps. The start of the tour on the official cycle route initially leads steadily uphill on asphalt. After around 600 meters in altitude, you reach the Windachalm, a picturesque alpine pasture surrounded by the majestic 3000-metre peaks.

From the Windachalm, the bike is carried for a considerable climb of around 1250 meters in altitude to the Hochstubaihütte. This part of the ascent also serves as mental preparation for the downhill, as you can already memorize the sections. At the Hochstubaihütte, you have the opportunity to enjoy excellent refreshments and a breathtaking panorama.

The descent begins with a technically very challenging upper section, which is described as "almost everything rideable, or almost rideable". The insurance and steps are a challenge even for experienced bikers. The descent is in the S3 to S4 difficulty range and remains challenging throughout - a real granite descent that requires full concentration.

The long descent to the Windachalm is energy-sapping and is enriched by the spectacular backdrop of the lower and upper Seekar lakes and the surrounding mountains. After a transfer via the Lochle Alm Trail, the route continues to the Kleblealm, where the Kleblealm Trail begins. This trail, classified as difficulty S2, offers a great riding experience in dry conditions. In wet conditions, however, the trail can become a challenge due to the slippery stones and muddy surface.

The tour finally ends back on the asphalt road, completing one of the most challenging and scenic routes in the region. Due to the alpine location and the length of the tour, it should only be undertaken in stable weather. You should also be considerate of hikers, especially at weekends and during the vacation season, when there is likely to be more traffic.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
