The Timmelsjoch between Ötztal and Passeiertal is one of the most famous pass roads in the Alps due to its topographical location and altitude and offers epic trail descents in the southern and northern areas.

Description

The tour starts in Sölden, whereby the question arises at the beginning as to whether you should be shuttled all the way to the Timmelsjoch or tackle the uphill on the pass road under your own steam. If you choose to pedal yourself, make sure that you do the tour at times when there is little traffic, as otherwise the road is very busy. As far as the uphill is concerned, it is entirely on asphalt. Once you reach the Joch (2474 meters above sea level), the high alpine mountain world of the Ötztal Alps and the views to the north and south are a reward for the exertions of the uphill.

The downhill starts at the pass and winds along the Timmelstal valley parallel to the pass road. It then continues past the former customs hut towards Zwieselstein and from here the last trail sections back to Sölden. Most of the trail is rated S2, but there are a few sections with a difficulty of S3. The length of the descent in particular should not be underestimated, as should the concentration required. All in all, a cool change from the gigantic bike park on the Gaislachkogel. However, the tour is more recommended on low-traffic days due to the high frequency on the road.
