Wurmkogel

Wurmkogel

The Wurmkogel is a 3000-meter peak at the very back of the Ötztal valley with a mountain lift and summit restaurant. Which means: It can also be tackled by mountain bike. However, the descent through the Königstal valley to Gurgl is very difficult, but worthwhile for fans of high alpine single trails.

Description

The ascent to the Wurmkogel is by cable car. First take the Hochgurglbahn to the mountain station and from there take the chairlift. This does not officially transport mountain bikes, but if you ask nicely, you will be spared the steep ascent on the gravel road. The chairlift takes you up to the mountain ridge, which is almost exactly 3000 meters high and has an extraordinary mountain restaurant. The descent leads the first few meters along the ski slope until a marked hiking trail branches off to the left. This is our route. The path is stony but rideable. Only on the ridge do you have to carry your bike briefly in a few places. Finally, the path turns left into the Königstal valley. The start is a serpentine section where the bends can only be negotiated with the rear wheel turned. Further down, there are fewer bends but all the more stones and steps. However, good riders will always find a rideable line. The route continues in this way down to the edge of the forest, where the reward is a flowing final section through the forest down to Poschach near Obergurgl. You return to the Hochgurglbahn valley station on the left-hand side of the main road on trails and gravel roads.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
