Hildesheimer Hütte

Hildesheimer Hütte

On the so-called "quiet side" of the Ötztal, there are some hidden gems for mountain bikers. One of them is the Hildesheimer Hütte at the transition from the Ötztal to the Stubaital with a very technical trail descent.

Description

The mountain bike tour in Ötztal starts near the well-known winter sports resort of Sölden and rides steadily uphill on the official cycle route towards Windachtal/Windachalm. The beginning of the route is asphalted, but then changes to gravel, which makes the ride pleasant with a medium to moderate gradient. At the end of the forest road in the Windachtal valley, the bike is carried on the shoulder or has to be pushed for around 800 meters in altitude to the Hildesheimer Hütte. This ascent over the granite boulders is physically demanding, but rewards you with a breathtaking landscape and panoramic views.

On arrival at the Hildesheimer Hütte, you can stop for a break to enjoy the impressive view and gather your strength for the descent ahead. The descent itself takes place along the Ludwig Aschenbrenner Weg, an alpine trail created over 120 years ago to access the hut. The technical difficulty of the descent is mostly rated S3 and S4, with the granite blocks and the combination of hairpin bends and rock faces sections requiring a flawless ride.

The route finally leads back to the Windachtal valley, where you ride down to the Kleblealm and use the Kleblealm Trail as the crowning glory. This trail is rated with a difficulty of S2 and should ideally be ridden in dry conditions, as it can otherwise be very slippery due to the nature of the ground.

All in all, this tour in the Ötztal is a real alpine bike adventure, which is very strenuous with almost 2000 meters of altitude and should only be undertaken in stable weather conditions.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
