Badish Moon Rising – Canadian
Description
Instead of taking the road directly to the valley station of the Schauinsland cable car, this option involves first climbing up to Luisenhöhe and riding down from Langackern into the Bohrer valley, where you then change to the cable car. It is also possible to crank up to the Schauinsland summit under your own steam and completely traffic-free. But there is a cable car that needs to be used. It makes the route a little over 700 vertical meters easier.
The descent starts right at the top at the Schauinsland viewing tower. First on a rough forest path, then it gets smoother and smoother - we are on the legendary Badish Moon Rising. A super flowy and varied trail, mostly downhill, with some uphill sections for short stretches. The best variety with excellent riding fun up to Sohlacker. Now some muscle power is required for the ascent towards Kybfelsen, only to make the acquaintance of Freiburg's next trail legend a little later: the Canadian. This rides in a similar way to the Badish Moon Rising over the Rehagsattel down to the Wiehre district of Freiburg. Conclusion: an exceptionally great single trail right on the outskirts of the city, also possible as an after-work ride thanks to the mountain railroad transport.Map & GPX-Track

We rode this tour last weekend. Easy access to the gondola lift (takes 20 minutes, costs 22 EUR with bike). Part of the group rode the cable car (be sure to check the opening times on the website beforehand), another part cycled up the 735 m in an hour. However, the road is anything but car-free. The start of the trail is a bit tricky as they are renovating the tower and everything is closed off.
The first 300 meters are ridden on a bumpy forest road, not very spectacular. But then it becomes much smoother and really very cool. A varied and flowing trail (S1-S2) with several short climbs.
The bike has to be pushed on the Kybfelsen. I think this can be quite tedious with a heavy e-bike. This is followed by the Canadiantrail, which is divided into 8 sections. Partly winding flow trails, but also rough, rutted downhill sections with mostly rideable jumps (which can also be ridden around) and technically difficult sections. Simply a bit of everything and therefore a very enjoyable experience. I can highly recommend this tour.
We rode the tour today: 3 took the Bänli, I first pushed up the Holzschlägermatte trail (very nice and rideable), from the middle I rode onto the road and further up again onto a forest path. The 700m stretch dragged on.
Then, unfortunately, it was about 500m down on a forest road littered with stone debris to the start of Moon rising. There is certainly a better variant: Shortly before the start, a trail comes down from the left (mountain hotel trail to Trailforks). This part was very disappointing.
Then we finally entered Moon rising: A nice trail through the woods with lots of flow and some counter climbs. Very rewarding. Afterwards you come to the "Death Metal Kybi Uphill" - it deserves its name - especially if you already have over 1000m in your legs. At the end is a section of stairs to the top.
After a few more meters in altitude, you come to the start of the Canadien: the first part is technically demanding, but easy to ride. The further down you go, the more "harmless" it becomes. I don't like built and shaped trails, especially not when there are braking grooves in every passage that turn the whole thing into a bumpy tour.
Great tour that is also fun. I drove up. The signposting could be improved a bit but you can always find your way. The start of the trails is not easy but it is definitely worth it. Technically rather difficult at the beginning, then smooth and fun.
Very cool tour, especially in spring when there is still snow in the Alps. The Badish Moonrising goes up and down and is rather natural. The Canadian is very technical and bumpy in section 0 (can be bypassed), then climbs briefly before you reach the actual start. It starts off a little technical and then becomes more and more flowy until the lower sections are full of built berms and small jumps. At the end, you come out right on the edge of the city and are in the center in 5 minutes.
Trail fireworks! The start of both trails was a little disappointing, but don't worry: it gets better! Much better in fact!
The train charges €11.50 just for the bike, the person probably rides cheapest with the WelcomeTicket - 3 days for €27.
