Colletto Balma

Colletto Balma

The area around Monte Faraut offers countless trail options on historic paths. One very impressive crossing is the Colletto Balma combined with the Colletto Chiausis.

Description

The starting point of this impressive mountain bike tour is at the head of the Bellino Valley. From here, the ascent begins on an old military gravel road. The gradient is moderate to moderate, the surface is rough in places but easy to ride. The trail leads across extensive alpine pastures to a high plateau with great views - especially to the south to the striking Cima Sebolet.

In the area of the alpine huts of Grange Pra Carlevars, the mountain bike is increasingly pushed or carried. The path rides up to Colletto Chiausis, the first crossing of the tour. From there, you cross over to old military buildings and follow a well-preserved military trail of the Vallo Alpino up to Colletto Balma - the highest point of the tour at almost 2,800 meters above sea level. The transition offers high alpine character and captivates with spectacular views of the surrounding peaks.

The descent is technically varied and has different levels of difficulty. In the upper section, the trail runs along steep slopes, sometimes a little unclear, but exciting throughout. The trail here ranges from S2 to S3 and descends until the U69 long-distance trail joins the U27 trail - also part of the historic Vallo Alpino.

From here, the trail becomes more open and clearer. In the section near the river and waterfall, however, it is partially exposed and reaches difficulty level S3 again in places. In the last part of the tour, you return to the head of the Bellino Valley and roll comfortably along the gravel road back to the starting point.
