Frankopanen Castell (Grobnik, Rjeka)

The circuit over the Grobnik hill near Rijeka in combination with the trail sections back to Riječina is a real trail highlight on a compact all-mountain tour.

Description

The tour starts in Orehovica, from where it first rides on asphalt and later through a residential area before continuing on gravel to the Grobnik settlement area. Grobnik was an important strategic point, which explains why the Croatian Frankopan princely family built fortifications in the upper area. From here, there are several options: the Grobnik Downhill, the Grobnik Rocky and the Enduro Grobnik in the northern area. The Grobnik Rocky in particular, classified as S2, should be ridden in dry conditions, as the soil in combination with stones and subsoil can be very slippery.

The route continues towards Dražice, circles the Grobnik and leads to the next uphill before the next downhill, the Kacani, begins. The route rides down to the Riječina river in a similar manner to before. After crossing the bridge, the next trail highlight begins. The first few meters are somewhat exposed and bumpy and require caution, after which the trail rides into a beautiful forest, where a cross-country trail of difficulty S1 to S2 stretches along the river. This winds its way to the main road, where the final uphill back to the starting point is tackled.
