Veprinac Kirche - Opatija

Veprinac-Kirche - Opatija

If you are looking for medieval paths combined with breathtaking sea views, the tour to Veprinac Church on Kvarner Bay is the perfect choice.

Description

The route starts right next to the crashing sea waves in the climatic health resort of Kvarner Bay in the small village of Ičiči. From there, the route climbs steadily on a moderate gradient. In Poljane (about 200 meters above sea level) you already have a remarkable view of the island of Krk, Cres and Rijeka. Nevertheless, you continue to pedal steadily on the asphalt road and cross the expressway/highway and finally pass Veprinac to Veprinac Church, the highest point of the tour (518 meters above sea level). The region around the church was already inhabited in Roman times.

The view is magnificent and the descent route is also based on the period of settlement. Initially on asphalt, it goes a few meters to the residential buildings before the Roman path begins. A historical path, paved and perfectly set in the landscape, descends to Opatija on difficulty levels S0 to S2. The route briefly crosses the highway before continuing to Kolavići and then down to Opatija. Especially in the last part, there are many steps to overcome, which are typical for this area. Above Opatija, you should always keep to the one-way system in the town area. Otherwise traffic chaos is inevitable. In the bay of Opatija, the coastal road then takes you back to the starting point on asphalt.
