Obruč-Umrundung (Rjeka)

The Obruč, the highest peak in the Croatian Grobnik Alps, offers several trail combinations, with the circumnavigation and the descent towards Grobnik among the highlights.

Description

The start is in the small village of Dražice. Right at the beginning, a short trail cut-off leads out of the village on asphalt. The route then climbs steadily uphill on gravel across the southern slopes of Obruč. At around 600 meters above sea level, you reach an extensive high plateau, which you cross on a forest road. Here you head towards Vojak.

In the area of the plateau, you cross agricultural land. Shepherd dogs are to be expected here. In the event of an encounter, it is advisable to drive well clear of the herd. As a rule, the dogs show no further interest and - as in the Western Alps - pose no danger as long as you keep a respectful distance.

Further up, you come across an old military road from the time of the Vallo Alpino. The rough gravel surface makes the ascent challenging, but leads steadily uphill. Below the summit of Pakleno sjever, the route finally leads along a wide forest road - but you lose a few meters in altitude here before the actual trail begins.

From the trail entrance, the descent begins. Some sections can only be tackled by pushing due to the topography. The trail then becomes increasingly flowing and becomes a real highlight of the tour - technically at difficulty level S2, occasionally S3, always accompanied by great views.

Afterwards you reach the ridge between Obruč and Ćunina glava. Here, too, there is a varied descent on loose, coarse gravel with a similar level of difficulty (S2 to S3). Continue in this manner towards the starting point. Shortly before the end, another trail highlight awaits: a small artificial bike park, which gives the tour a playful finale. You then return to Dražice and complete the tour.

Note: High temperatures are to be expected in summer. It is essential to take sufficient drinking water with you - there are no reliable supply options on the entire tour.
