Grosse Sense-Tour

The River Sense and its tributaries have carved their way deep into the landscape over thousands of years. For mountain bikers, these trenches form an excellent basis for the exceptionally attractive route from Schwarzsee to Bern.

Description

The ideal way to get to Schwarzsee is by bus from Fribourg. The route starts directly on the lakeshore and then follows the marked hiking trails along the Warme Sense to the outskirts of Pflaffeien. Once again, ride to the banks of the Sense and follow it downstream to the bridge at Guggersbach. As there is now no path along the banks of the Sense for a while, the route climbs to Kalchstätten and Sand near Guggisberg. At Walehus, the route rides downhill again and finally reaches Schwarzenburg. This is followed by a section on the road to Elisried, then a singletrail down into the deep Schwarzwasser riverbed. However, the bike has to be pushed a few meters back up the steep slope to finally reach Krommen. Immediately afterwards, the route descends steeply again to the Schwarzwasser riverbank, but now you follow the wild stream downstream to Sensematt. Turn left here through the Scherligraben and later reach Mengestorf and the Könizbergwald forest. Through this, you reach the outskirts of Bern and finally reach the main railway station on quatier roads.

Beautiful fall tour with cool trails, but unfortunately a lot of riding is now prohibited on the banks of the Schwarzwasser and Sense.

Scenic, but not very technically demanding tour.
Please note: track does not appear to be completely up-to-date, hiking trail newly created in some places, always follow the signs.
Altitude Plaffeien: The hiking trail between Rufenen and Füllmättli is closed due to a landslide (as of 6.8.2016). Continue on the main road towards Plaffeien, then follow the signs for the campsite.
