Wohlensee-Umrundung
Description
From Bern, you ride through the Enge district to Tiefenau and cross the Aare on the railroad bridge. Ride down to the banks of the Aare and follow the singletrail to Bremgarten. A short ascent is necessary at Bremgarten Castle, but the trail then continues to Halebrügg. This is followed by a stretch of country road, but at Hinterkappelen you switch back to a singletrail. Later on, the route follows country and forest roads to the weir at the western end of the lake. The return journey to Bern begins here on the southern shore. After Oberei, there is a steady up-and-down down to the lakeshore and a little later back up to the settlements. This section generates the highest elevation gain of the tour, but this feat of strength comes to an end in Eymatt. You return to the city center of Bern through the Bremgartenwald forest on the Veloland route.

I recommend that you only use this route on weekdays. The area from Worblaufen to well beyond the Wohleibrücke bridge (Wohlen) is largely subject to general bans on driving, and in some cases explicit bans on cycling. There are many walkers, hikers, walkers, joggers and dog walkers on the way and crossing is hardly possible on the sometimes narrow paths. After crossing the weir of the Mühleberg hydroelectric power station (Wehrstrasse, Eiau junction), certain sections can no longer be used as marked. The local farmer has blocked/fenced off the path. So you have to carry your bike down long steps to the bank, back up and down again, each time with a gate at the top of the steps that is awkward to operate (not suitable for e-mountain bikes!). After Frauenkappelen (Breitacherstrasse junction), the "Chatzenstyg" hiking trail has been renovated. At both ends of each section, the municipality advises cyclists and bikers that this section is intended for pedestrians and that they should choose an alternative route (...). Although this tour is highly recommended for its scenery, I wonder at this point whether this route should still be published or offered at all!
