Monte Acomizza – Arlecchino-Trail

Arlecchino-Trail

Monte Acomizza on the border between Friuli and Carinthia offers great singletrail descents on the Italian side. These include the Arlecchio trail down to Camporosso.

Description

The mountain bike tour starts in Ugovizza, not far from Tarvisio. From this starting point, the route rides steadily uphill along asphalted serpentines before turning into a historic military road in the Vallo Alpino. Gently nestled in the grassy mountains near the Italian-Austrian border, between Friuli and Carinthia, the athletes continuously gain altitude. The highest point of the tour is almost reached at the Cappella di Saint Ubertus.

The last few meters are then climbed on gravel to the Achomitzer Alm at the foot of Monte Acomizza. The Achomitzer Alm was heavily fortified by the Italians during the Second World War, which is why there are numerous bunkers and barracks of the Vallo Alpino along the route, giving the tour a special historical character.

The downhill trail that follows is just as fascinating as the history. From the Achomitzer Alm, the gravel road turns into a gentle single trail. With a difficulty level between S1 and S2, the trail rides down several hairpin bends to a rest area. As the path is somewhat washed out in places, a precise riding style is required here. The trail maintains this technical challenge and finally leads to Torrente Gaccia.

You have the option of continuing along the trail to Val Bartolo and returning to the main valley from there. In this variant, however, the route rides another eighty meters uphill to a gravel road, where the Arlecchino Trail begins shortly afterwards on the left. This first-class trail runs along the ridge, initially slightly uphill and finally down to the village of Camporosso. The cycle path, which runs along a disused railroad line, then takes you back to Ugovizza.
