Jôf dei Disteis
Description
The route starts in the Raccolana Valley near the village of Piani di Sotto. From Piani di Sotto, you initially wind your way along a main road, later on side roads through Stretti and then back on the main road through the hairpin bends to the Sella Nevea Pass. The ascent takes you deeper and deeper into the mountain ranges of the Kanin and the Jôf di Montasio. A bizarre mountain world, framed by gentle alpine meadows, offers a panorama that is rarely equaled. From the Sella Nevea Pass, the route continues on asphalt to Malga Montasio before turning right onto gravel and climbing steeply to the Rifugio Giacomo di Brazzá. From this point, the bike is only transported up to the Jôf dei Disteis by pushing or carrying it. The higher you get, the more likely you are to come across ibex and eagles. They can be very curious and even follow you at every turn. However, if they get too close, they leave the area skillfully and in perfect climbing style. Once you reach the col, you are right in front of the Jôf di Montasio and have a view of the entire Kanin group and the Val Dogna.
The route descends directly to Malga Montasio on difficulty levels S2 to S3. A fantastic descent that you don't get to enjoy every day. At Malga Montasio, you are also served excellent delicacies from the region before continuing down a military trail from the First World War to the starting point. However, this is somewhat exposed in two places, so particular care is required here. Difficulty level S2, only S3 in places. An absolute pleasure, especially at the end on a flowing S1 trail back to the starting point.

I rode the tour on 16.08.24. The scenery is really unique! Despite the high season, only a few hikers (Italians) on the way and everyone is amazed and shows respect for what you do here ;) That's how it can be, dear German and Austrian hikers!
A few additions to the trail:
- In the first part up to Malga Montasio, the difficulty is definitely in the loose scree. The further down you go, the easier it gets and you fly to the Malga. Brilliant trail.
- The 2nd part from the Malga is much easier and wonderful to ride.
What a great tour!!!
