Sella Sagata
Description
The tour begins in the picturesque town of Chiusaforte and rides along the Alpe Adria cycle path to Resiutta. This well-maintained cycle path follows a former railroad line - don't forget to take a light with you in case you pass through tunnels.
In Resiutta, the route begins to change and continues on asphalt into the picturesque Val Resia, past the villages of San Giorgio and Prato. After Prato, a rather challenging uphill starts on a concrete ramp, which entices with a fantastic mountain backdrop and rides to Stavoli Sagata/Sella Sagata. At the war memorial, where there is also a small church and a water point, you can take a short break before the descent begins.
The descent is technically demanding and is classified between difficulty levels S2 and partly S4. The trail is somewhat exposed in places and partially washed out due to the heavy rainfall in summer in the Val Resia and Raccolana valley, which is in a real waterlogged situation. Due to this erosion damage, which is regularly repaired, caution is advised.
The descent is particularly interesting at the end, when it offers spectacular views of Chiusaforte and challenging hairpin bends. The route finally leads back into the urban area at the confluence of the Torrente Raccolana and Raccolana valleys, crosses the Fiume Fella and ends in Chiusaforte, where the loop comes to a close.
