Monte Forcella

Monte Forcella

Monte Forcella is a fantastic vantage point between Tolmezzo and Moggio Udinese, and the tour can be ridden virtually all year round thanks to its location and climate zone.

Description

The tour starts in Venzone, at the confluence of the Tagliamento and Fiume Fella rivers. On asphalt, you first follow the main road, then change to the old military road on the opposite bank and finally cross the Torrente Favarinis. The rideable section ends here - the uphill now begins in pure push and carry mode. Theoretically, the entire tour could be completed with just one gear - ideal for single-speed enthusiasts.

On a partly steep but easily accessible climb, you gain altitude meter by altitude meter until you reach the Ricovero Forcella Coló at around 800 metres above sea level. The key sections of the subsequent descent are easy to memorize on the ascent. The route continues, carrying or pushing the bike, up to Monte Forcella and the ricovero of the same name.

On arrival at the top, a fantastic panorama awaits. The view of the surrounding Friuli region is particularly impressive in spring and fall, when the bushes are bare and the view is clear. The descent is also impressive across the board: a perfectly balanced mix of difficulty S2 and occasionally S3. The trail seems to have been made for mountain bikers - never too difficult, never too easy, always varied and with a natural flow.

On a varied surface - from rock slabs to forest floor - the descent finally leads to the Rifugio Coló mountain hut. It's worth taking a break here: fantastic views, a peaceful atmosphere and excellent cuisine (note opening times). The last few meters are on a historic mule track, which is exposed at one point but remains easy to ride. Shortly afterwards, you will reach asphalt again, cross the Fiume Fella and return to Venzone in a relaxed manner.

Conclusion: A lonely, technically challenging mountain tour with some pushing, a clear line and great downhill fun - ideal for anyone who loves alpine mountain biking and likes to leave the hustle and bustle behind.
