Monte Monticello

Monte Monticello

Monte Monticello in Valle Canale was a strategic defense point during the First World War and now offers a trail adventure of almost 100 percent singletrack - uphill and downhill - thanks to the infrastructure that has been created.

Description

The route starts in Moggio Udinese. From here, the route winds its way south under Monte Cesariis up the old military road. The route is completely rideable for e-mountainbikers, but biobikers have to push in some places. Once you reach the fork, the route is relatively flat up to Forcella di Monticello (915 meters above sea level). The trail winds uphill in the same way to the summit at almost 1400 meters above sea level. The last bends in particular are very scenic and offer views towards Moggessa di lá, Moggessa di Quá - the abandoned villages. When you finally reach the top, you can enjoy a fantastic panorama of the Val d'Aupa, southern Friuli and the foothills of the Alps. Especially in spring and autumn when visibility is good, this is a real power spot.

The descent follows the ascent route in the upper section. At a difficulty level of S1, a trail monster begins that is second to none. What feels like endless trail meters are surfed down to the Forcella di Monticello. From here, the trail changes in difficulty. On S2 to S3, it runs along the Rio Travasan to Borgo Travasans. Also a historic trail, but heavily washed out until you finally return to civilization in Moggio Udinese.
