Malga Montasio

Malga Montasio

The ascent from the Raccolana valley to the Sella Nevea pass and subsequently to Malga Montasio offers a scenic and technical mountain bike highlight in the region.

Description

The route starts in the small village of Piani di Sotto in the Raccolana Valley. From here, you wind your way along the main road and later on a small side road towards the Sella Nevea Pass. The last hairpin bends are a real engineering highlight and offer magnificent views of the Kanin and Montasio mountain ranges. Once you reach the saddle, the route is relatively steep on asphalt towards Malga Montasio. Malga Montasio is very popular and you can expect a lot of excursion traffic here, especially at weekends. The mountain pasture itself is located on a small high plateau and is at the top of the panorama. In good weather, you have a view of the Kanin mountain range and the surrounding mountains are at your feet.

The downhill trail is also a real highlight. Initially still on a harnessed trail, it then runs steadily downhill on difficulty levels S1 to S2 into the Racollana valley. It becomes increasingly clear that this is a former military trail from the First World War. Perfectly embedded in the terrain, there are two relatively tricky passages. If you are unsure, it is better to push your bike here. The trail pleasure ends directly in Piani di Lá and you roll another 50 Elevation loss on asphalt back to the starting point in Piani di Sotto.
