Creta dai Rusei - Forcella Vualt

Creta dai Rusei - Forcella Vualt

The descent from the summit of Creta dai Rusei near Moggio Udinese in the Canal Valley via Forcella Vualt is a high-end trail combination.

Description

The route starts in the village of Pradis near Moggio Udinese at the entrance to Val Aupa. From here, the route follows asphalt towards Val Alba to the former military barracks at the end of the valley. Surrounded by mighty rock faces and in absolute solitude, you pedal through the nature park and immerse yourself deeper and deeper in a dreamlike landscape. You should top up your water reserves on the way up, as the tour continues along the ridge and is very dry and warm, especially in the summer months. From the military area, a former Alpini road leads up to the summit of Creta dai Rusei (1915 meters above sea level). Some parts are still pedaled, the rest has to be pushed or carried. This network of paths was built to perfection in terms of road construction and today takes mountain bikers and hikers to a fantastic vantage point. At the summit, there are still countless remnants from the First World War, reminding us of the terrible battlefields. The view from the summit is magnificent and on a clear day you can even see the Hohe Tauern with the Grossglockner.

In terms of the descent, you continue on the ascent variant. In the upper section from the summit on difficulty levels S2 to S3, care must be taken, especially in summer, to ensure that the overgrown path does not become a tripping hazard. At the barracks, take the military trail down. This has a narrow section at the top where the path has broken off. You should push your bike here as a precaution. The route continues almost continuously on difficulty levels S1 to S2 back to the former military hospital. From Resti Ospedle militäre Vualt, the route continues south towards Rio Alba. There are a few hairpin bends to master here before you finally reach the uphill road again. Continue along this road to the Rifugio Vualt. This is a wonderful picnic spot where you can replenish your water reserves. Afterwards, the bike has to be pushed for about 20 to 30 minutes or transported to Forcella Vualt, the last uphill of this tour. From Forcella Vualt, the route then descends to Dordolla on difficulty S2, occasionally S3. A fantastic historical trail that is second to none. In Dordolla, you can enjoy a coffee in the narrow alleyways and tackle the last few Elevation losses of the trail before finally arriving in civilization on the main road in Val Aupa and rolling back to the starting point in Pradis.

Shuttle tip: You can drive up to the Riu da la Smesse parking lot.
