Monte Monticello Diretissima
Description
In Moggio Udinese, you pedal leisurely through Val Aupa past Torrente Aupa. You get deeper and deeper into the hinterland of Friuli before taking the uphill on asphalt at Grauzaria on a moderate gradient to Badiuz. At the saddle near Borgo di Mezzo, you reach the area of the abandoned villages. There was a strong earthquake here in the 1970s, which completely destroyed several residential areas. People moved away and the area of the abandoned villages was created in the basin. From Borgo di Mezzo, the route then briefly crosses the uphill in cross-country style on a path towards Forca di Monticello. From the saddle, a military road from the First World War climbs steadily up a few hairpin bends, with the panorama getting better and better until you finally reach the summit of Monticello. The panorama is breathtaking and it is important to remember that over 100 years ago there was a fierce war of position.
The descent begins at the summit and follows the ascent variant up to an altitude of around 1250 meters above sea level. Then turn left and take the path towards Stavolo Borghi on difficulty levels S2 to S3. From Stavolo Borghi, the trail becomes a little easier again and finally joins a short section of a harness trail before switching back to a forest and meadow trail, which rides directly down to Moggio Udinese on difficulty S1 to S2. The tour is particularly magnificent in spring and fall, as the temperatures are low and there is no vegetation. In the summer months, the tour is not recommended due to the heat, low water levels and heavy vegetation. The tour is relatively easy to do with an e-mountain bike, except for the crossing from Borgo di Mezzo to Forca di Monticello. There are a few places here where the bike has to be lifted.
