Creta dai Rusei

Creta dai Rusei - Bivacco Bianchi

A trail tour of superlatives is located in the middle of Moggio Udinese and rides via Creta dai Rusei to Bivacco Bianchi and back via Val Aupa, using only the infrastructure from the First World War trail networks.

Description

The route starts in the small village of Pradis near Moggio Udinese at the entrance to Val Aupa. From here, the route follows asphalt towards Val Alba to the former military barracks at the end of the valley. Surrounded by mighty rock faces and in absolute solitude, you pedal through the nature park and immerse yourself deeper and deeper in a dreamlike landscape. You should top up your water reserves on the way up, as the tour continues along the ridge and is very dry and warm, especially in the summer months. From the military area, a former Alpini road leads up to the summit of Creta dai Rusei (1915 meters above sea level). Some parts are still pedaled, the rest has to be pushed or carried. This network of paths was built to perfection in terms of road construction and today takes mountain bikers and hikers to a fantastic vantage point. At the summit, there are still countless remnants from the First World War, reminding us of the terrible battlefields. The view from the summit is magnificent and on a clear day you can even see the Hohe Tauern with the Grossglockner.

The descent then runs southwest along the ridge to below the Cima della Vacca. At difficulty level S2, in places S3, the descent is around 200 meters in altitude. From this point, the bike is then pushed again and brought up to the saddle below Monte Chiaval (1950 meters above sea level) before the final  trail begins. At difficulty levels S2 to S3, the trail leads to Bivacco Bianchi and then back to Val Alba. A fantastic trail has been created here from a former military road and leads down a breathtaking descent in countless hairpin bends before you take the next and last uphill at Rifugio Vualt, but you should fill up your water reserves here. The Forcella Vualt is only about ten minutes away, before the route then descends steadily to Dordolla on a trail of superlatives. Finally, you end up on the main road in Val Aupa and surf back to the starting point on asphalt. Conclusion: All in all, one of the most satisfying tours in the entire Tolmezzo/Friaul area.

Did the tour again today. All paths in excellent condition. Worth mentioning: the traverse or ascent between Creta rusei and biv. Bianco is partly very exposed and built close to the rock. If you are not completely free from vertigo, you can get into real trouble here! Apart from 3m, nothing is secured by ropes, but there is plenty of fall terrain! Otherwise a really fantastic tour. Shortly before the end of the descent from the Forc. Vault, the trail branch towards Drentus is worthwhile in my opinion, from there another trail goes into the valley, so that you give away fewer meters of altitude on the valley road.
