Monte Cuarnan - Malga Cuaran 1
Description
The route starts in the small town of Gemona del Friuli. From here, you wind your way up what feels like countless serpentines with a slight incline on asphalt to Plans di Cuarnan a Bas. In parts, the ascent feels like a jungle in summer. Heavy vegetation and high temperatures add the finishing touches. From Plans di Cuarnan a Bas, the route continues on gravel to Ôrs di Cuarnan. Here on this plateau you can see as far as the Mediterranean in good weather and low humidity. This area is also used as a take-off point for paragliders. The last few meters to the summit are covered by pushing or carrying. Once you reach the summit (1370 meters above sea level), a chapel awaits you for a leisurely rest, and the view here is magnificent. Countless mountain peaks and the Tagliamento lie at your feet and provide interesting insights into the foothills of the Alps.
The downhill trail is just as interesting. From the summit, it starts on difficulty S3 towards Agâr dal Tac. From here, the trail continues down the Torrente Vegliato on difficulty S2, in places S3. You should always ride with concentration, especially in the heavily overgrown areas where there are countless stones, making the descent a little bumpy. After crossing the river, things start to flow a little more and you surf back down to the valley floor on a magnificent trail on gravel and roots, before finally taking the asphalt transfer road back to the starting point. All in all, a breathtaking tour in the Italian Prealps, which is particularly interesting in fall and spring due to the sparse vegetation and lower temperatures.
