Monte Nischiuarch

Monte Nischiuarch

Monte Nischiuarch in the Italian-Slovenian border region near Žaga offers a magnificent trail descent plus an additional variant on historic paths from the last century.

Description

The starting point is the village of Uccea. From here, the route follows the Rio Uccea from the Italian/Slovenian border along a winding, narrow pass road, which includes fragments of the Vallo Alpino, up to Carnizza. Here there is a small bar (Baita Al Taj) or bistro where you can get refreshments and regional delicacies. From Carnizza, pedal in the opposite direction past Piazza degli Antichi Ghiacciai and continue along an old military road towards Monte Nischiuarch. On the way there are numerous bunkers from the Second World War, as well as positions from the First World War. Once you arrive at Casera Nischiuarch, you have the option of following Sentiero 739 or 739A. This tour refers to the 739A, although the 739 is of a similar difficulty. This former Alpini military trail rides steadily downhill. On difficulty levels S1 to S2, occasionally S3, as well as some eroded sections, you get everything you want. The section at Monte Polose is particularly epic, as is the section towards the starting point. Once you reach the main road, you then roll along the Rio Uccea to the starting point.
