The starting point is the village of Carnia near the Fiume Fella lake. At the old barracks, a military road from the Second World War climbs steadily uphill to Stavoli Cuel Lunc Alto. For the most part, the ascent is relatively relaxed with a short intermediate descent on asphalt, but from Stavoli Cuel Lunc Basso it is extremely steep and on gravel. At the last mountain pasture, the trail section begins. At difficulty level S1, occasionally S2, you take a few bends and reach the Rio Chiampeit. Here you have a magnificent view of the southern slopes of the Cima Clapadorie. There is a small ascent to complete before the epic traverse. In the midst of bizarre rock formations, you have a fantastic view towards Moggio Udinese, Val Aupa and the Carnic Alps. The traverse is somewhat selective in some places, as the mountain is in strong motion, but relatively easy to do. At Stavoli Stivane di sopra, the trail climbs a few meters in altitude before the trail cut-offs towards Monte Sflincis begin. Difficulty levels S1 to S2 are on offer and fantastic mule trails open up. Eventually you come to a fork in the trail before taking the path towards Resiutta on the left, which is very technical with very demanding sections. Mostly S2 to S3 including some S4 sections with considerable difficulty. However, these can also be bypassed in a relaxed manner. In Resiutta, it is then a relaxed ride back along the old, disused railroad line, with the choice of route falling partly on the main road, as the parallel town road is peppered with the risk of falling rocks.
Note: You should definitely pack a light, as the return journey leads through some old railroad galleries and these are only partially or poorly lit.
