Monte Cumieli

Monte Cumieli

The small but fascinating Monte Cumieli mountain impresses with its numerous fortifications from World War I and offers interesting trail combinations that are accessible all year round.

Description

The tour begins in the south, not far from the idyllic village of Gemona del Friuli. From here, it initially follows a gravel road through wooded areas and later continues on a narrow path, steadily uphill to the highest point of the tour, Monte Cumieli. Despite its low altitude, the viewpoint at just under 600 meters above sea level offers interesting views, especially of the Tagliamento, Gemona del Friuli, and the foothills of the Alps. The descent then begins. Typical of this limestone and gravel area, the trail leads steadily northward downhill through pine forests. Further on, mountain bikers ride the cross-country trail towards Forte di Monte Ercole, which can also be visited, and after a short climb reach the next downhill section. Here, a narrow path leads back to Gemona del Friuli. Overall, the difficulty is rated S1 and S2, but there are numerous trail variations on the mountain itself and along the route, so mountain bikers can repeat the tour several times. The entire area is also perfect for e-mountain bikes and can be ridden all year round.
