Traversata Monte Canin – Sentiero 632

Monte Canin

The crossing of the Kanin from Sella Nevea to Val Resia is one of the most impressive, epic and longest tours in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.

Description

The starting point of the tour is the village of Resiutta at the entrance to the Resia Valley. From here, you pedal along the disused railroad line, which has been converted into a cycle path, to Chiusaforte. At Chiusaforte, take the pass road to the famous Sella Nevea Pass. The route continues on asphalt through the Raccolana Valley, surrounded by incredible mountain peaks that can probably only be found in this formation in the Alps. Varied and impressive, the Sella Nevea Pass is reached after about 1000 meters in altitude from the starting point. At the pass itself, you buy a ticket and take the gondola to the Rifugio Celso Gilberti, saving yourself the hefty climb. From the Rifugio, the bike is then shouldered and pushed up to the Casermetta prima guerra mondiale from the First World War on the Sella Bila Pec. The panorama is now indescribable and the rock formations are more reminiscent of a lunar landscape than a bike tour in Friuli. An incredible number of lost places and an abnormal network of trails were built in these areas during the First World War. Today, this infrastructure serves bikers and hikers.

The Sentiero 632 then takes you across this lunar landscape. Uphill and downhill are combined, with the Donwhill being classified as difficulty S1 to S2. At Sella Grubia, the route then climbs a little further before crossing the trail with a few downhill sections, also with a difficulty rating of S1 to S2, to Ricovero Igor Crasso. Here you can take a break and enjoy the Val Resia and the intact infrastructure. Eagles, ibex and other mountain dwellers can be seen in the Picco Peloso area. From Picco Peloso, a trail begins that is second to none. At difficulty levels S1 to S2, the trail follows an old military path past Lommig and on towards Tuurse and then directly to Stolvizza/ Solbica. Once here, the trail fun is far from over. From Stolvizza you use an easy connecting trail in the direction of Localitá Braida and then, briefly, the asphalt road in Val Resia before taking the mountain trail below San Giorgio in the direction of Povici di sotto. A fantastic singletrail with a difficulty of S0 to S1 rides up to the small village. The last few meters you roll back to Resiutta.

Note: The tour is only possible a few weeks a year. Due to the high temperatures and low water supply, it is advisable to top up your water supply at the Sella Nevea Pass. You only reach streams and water points again at Stolvizza.
